The estate old vines are dry-farmed and head trained, yielding intense fruit flavors, balanced acidity, and structured tannins. Soils are well-drained, gravelly clay and loam which help to impart layered notes of raspberry, strawberry, and cherry. Like stepping back in time, elegant, old fashioned Zin flavors reflect the rich history of land that has been growing grapes for almost a century.
2017 was exceptionally low yielding. The growing season started off well with full reservoirs and replenished soils. The cons: inconsistent weather patterns and extreme heat spikes resulting in reduced fruit set. The pros: temperate summer days right before harvest and cool nights fostered good flavor development while keeping sugars down and acids intact. Both challenging and rewarding, the end result was a small crop of excellent quality.
