2020 Estate Old Vine Zinfandel

Sold Out

Overview

It takes some courage to aim for finesse rather than bigness. The Nalle winemaking style follows traditional vigneron techniques: low yields in the vineyard, hand picking and sorting, gentler macerations, and small fermentations. Aged exclusively in French oak (10% new, for 16 months). Our style is moderate in alcohol with bright acidity and pleasing texture. Dry Creek fruit forward with a nod to Tuscany.

Winemaker's Notes

The estate old vines are dry-farmed and head trained, yielding intense fruit flavors, balanced acidity, and structured tannins. Soils are well-drained, gravelly clay loam, helping impart the unique thumbprint of Dry Creek. Elegant, old fashioned Zin flavors reflect the rich history on land that has been growing grapes for a century. Proudly certified sustainable and members of the Historic Vineyard Society.

Tasting Notes

AROMA: Vivid ripe summer berries, fresh cherry pie cooling in the window, and more raspberries.

TASTE: Heirloom fruit intensity of red cherry, juicy peach, and classic Dry Creek bramble. Sun-ripened, rich, and refreshing all at the same time. Layered and complex flavors only 95-year-old vines produce.

TEXTURE: Nalle structure with velvety tannins and bright acidity. That first sip will bring you a mouthwatering pop of Zinberry smoothness.

FINISH: Nalle full-stage bow. The moment that makes the show, leaving you wanting more!

VINTAGE: The fruit quality of 2020 shows depth of flavor, plush body, balanced acidity and lower sugars brought on by warm + dry daytime conditions, and cooler temperatures at night. Now here comes the more complicated part… wildfires and Covid. Lab tests and sensory eval reveal the 2020 vintage is clean and has the flavors and textures you expect. 2020 validated 50 years of winemaking experience.
